Pastor, Have You Heard About Missionary Chad Phillips…

A little over a year ago, I had the privilege of meeting Brother Chad Phillips and his wife, Linda, at a missions conference at Zion Hill Baptist Church of Greenville, South Carolina. I was impressed with my brother from the outset. He is a missionary sent out of Victory Baptist Church, Loganville, Georgia where Derik Lawrence is the fine pastor. The Phillips family is serving with Macedonia World Baptist Missions  going to the country of Cambodia!

Statistics about Cambodia:
  • Over 95% Therevada Buddhist
  • One of the top countries for child prostitution
  • One of the only countries in Southeast Asia (along with Thailand) which has complete religious freedom
  • Over ten thousand villages in Cambodia, many which have not been reached with the Gospel

Ministry Video:

Without a doubt, this is the best mission video I have ever seen! I think you will agree! A MUST SEE!

A Word From Brother Chad:

“Psalm 74:20 perfectly describes Cambodia: ‘Have respect unto the covenant; for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.’ If there were ever a country that was characterized by spiritual darkness, it would be Cambodia. Why? Well, for starts, the pure Gospel of Christ did not penetrate Cambodia’s borders until 1923. From the time the Gospel made it into Cambodia until the Khmer Rouge took over the country 52 years later, very few Cambodians turned to Christ. Under the Khmer Rouge rule, approximately 3 million people were slaughtered in what is known as the Killing Fields. Of the few thousand Christians in the country at that time, only a few hundred survived.
After another decade of civil war throughout the 1980’s, Cambodia finally opened its doors to foreign missionaries in 1994- the first time in twenty years that foreign missionaries were allowed into the country. So, the Gospel made it to Cambodia in 1923; but what little presence of the Gospel was almost completely destroyed during the Killing Fields.
God has called our family to plant churches in this spiritually dark place. Please pray for us as we carry the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ to the Cambodian people.”

Tozer’s The Knowledge of the Holy, a modern classic of Christian testimony and devotion, addresses these and other vital questions, showing us how we can rejuvenate our prayer life, meditate more reverently, understand God more deeply, and experience God’s presence in our daily lives.
Informative and inspiring, The Knowledge of the Holy illuminates God’s attributes—from wisdom, to grace, to mercy—and shows through prayerful and insightful discussion, how we can more fully recognize and appreciate each of these divine aspects. This book will be treasured by anyone committed to the Christian faith. It bears eloquent witness to God’s majesty and shows us new ways to experience and understand the wonder and power of God’s spirit in our daily lives.

6 Fold Prayer Of A Passionate Pastor

As pastors we have to pray for others because that is an intricate part of ministry. Among the timely prayers made for our family, friends and parishioners, one must not neglect to purposefully pray for self. We are not to be like the mechanic who is often reported to drive the shabbiest car because he is too busy fixing everyone’s car that he has no time to repair his own. We must pray for ourselves!

A great man of God was said to have prayed a 6 fold prayer for himself! This man was none other than Oswald J. Smith. Consider what he is said to have prayed for…

6 Fold Personal Prayer List For A Passionate Pastor

#1 – To Be A Victorious Man!

(Joshua 1:8) “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”  (KJV)

#2 – To Be A Spirit-Filled Man!

(Ephesians 5:18) “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;”  (KJV)

(Galatians 5:22-23) “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”  (KJV)

#3 – To Be A Man Of Prayer!

(Psalms 91:1) “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”  (KJV)

(Jeremiah 33:3) “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”  (KJV)

#4 – To Be A Man Of The WORD!

(1 Timothy 4:12) “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”  (KJV)

(2 Timothy 2:15) “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”  (KJV)

(James 1:22-25) “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”  (KJV)

#5 – To Be A Surrendered Man!

(Romans 12:1-2) “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”  (KJV)

#6 – To Be A Man Of One Purpose

(Philippians 3:13-15) “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.”  (KJV)

Conclusion

I do not think I could add much more to this list. Certainly, if one would give himself to these 6 axioms of life, then I feel that the Almighty could use them. I challenge everyone who claims to be a preacher to seek after these sacred ingredients of a passionate pastor!

29056: Why Revival Tarries Why Revival Tarries

By Leonard Ravenhill / Bethany House

Leonard Ravenhill’s call to revival is as timely now as it was when first published over forty years ago. The message is fearless and often radical as he expounds on the disparity between the New Testament church and the church today. This book contains the heart of his message, A.W. Tozer called Ravenhill “a man sent from God” who “appeared at (a) critical moment in history,” just as the Old Testament prophets did. Included are questions for group and individual study.

Why Worry | Pastoral Sermon Illustration

Occasionally, I come across a great illustration or two through forwarded emails from friends of mine that encourage me. I felt like sharing this one as it is very applicable to our lives as believers and as spiritual leaders. I do not know where this originated, but whoever wrote this was certainly anointed.

This email illustration came from a friend…

Why Worry?

“A pastor had been on a long flight from one place to another. The first warning of the approaching problems came when the sign on the airplane flashed on: “Fasten your seat belts”. Then, after a while, a calm voice said, “We shall not be serving the beverages at this time as we are expecting a little turbulence. Please be sure your seat belt is fastened.”

As he looked around the aircraft, it became obvious that many of the passengers were becoming apprehensive. Later, the voice of the announcer said, “We are so sorry that we are unable to serve the meal at this time. The turbulence is still ahead of us.”

And then the storm broke. The ominous cracks of thunder could be heard even above the roar of the engines. Lightning lit up the darkening skies, and within moments that great plane was like a cork tossed around on a celestial ocean. One moment the airplane was lifted on terrific currents of air; the next, it dropped as if it were about to crash.

The pastor confessed that he shared the discomfort and fear of those around him. He said, “As I looked around the plane, I could see that nearly all the passengers were upset and alarmed. Some were praying. The future seemed ominous and many were wondering if they would make it through the storm.

“Then, I suddenly saw a little girl. Apparently the storm meant nothing to her. She had tucked her feet beneath her as she sat on her seat; she was reading a book and everything within her small world was calm and orderly.

“Sometimes she closed her eyes, then she would read again; then she would straighten her legs, but worry and fear were not in her world. When the plane was being buffeted by the terrible storm when it lurched this way and that, as it rose and fell with frightening severity, when all the adults were scared half to death, that marvelous child was completely composed and unafraid.” The minister could hardly believe his eyes.

It was not surprising therefore, that when the plane finally reached its destination and all the passengers were hurrying to disembark, our pastor lingered to speak to the girl whom he had watched for such a long time. Having commented about the storm and behavior of the plane, he asked why she had not been afraid.

The child replied, “Cause my Daddy’s the pilot, and he’s taking me home.”

There are many kinds of storms that buffet us.

Physical, mental, financial, domestic, and many other storms can easily and quickly darken our skies and throw our plane into apparently uncontrollable movement. We have all known such times, and let us be honest and confess, it is much easier to be at rest when our feet are on the ground than when we are being tossed about a darkened sky.

Let us remember: Our Father is the Pilot. He is in control and taking us home.

Conclusion…

For the believer, there is no real need to worry! It is wasted effort. Consider the following…

(Philippians 4:6-9) “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.”  (KJV)
