Pastor, Have You Heard About Samuel Mills

From time to time, pastors and missionaries need refreshment and help. For those who do not have an assistant pastor or someone qualified to preach and take care of things in your absence, it can be difficult to get away. This is where The Mills Family come in…

A couple of years ago, I met Brother Samuel Mills, for the first time, at a missions conference at his home church in Salisbury, North Carolina. His pastor, Darrell Worley, was away unexpectedly due to a death (?). Brother Mills was filling in as the moderator of the meeting, and there was a lot of pressure due to the fact that this was not only a missions conference for New Hope Baptist Church, but also a regional meeting for Macedonia World Baptist Missions. In spite of the added weight of leadership on his part, God used him in a great way!

Listed Below is an excerpt from Brother Mills’ Information Packet…

Salvation and Call to the Ministry

I was saved in 1991 at a Kid’s Crusade at the age of four. I clearly understood that I was a sinner and that Jesus was the only way of salvation; I then asked the Lord to forgive my sins and to save me. I surrendered to the call of God to be an Evangelist in July of 2001. During my teenage and college years, the Lord provided many opportunities to preach in Vacation Bible Schools, teen activities, Children’s Church, Regular Sunday and Wednesday services, and others. Preaching is one of the greatest passions of my life; I take the call of God to preach with all seriousness.

My Wonderful Wife

One of the greatest blessings that I have ever received is my wonderful wife Bethany. We were married on May 31, 2008. Bethany also received Christ as her Savior early in life and it is her desire to serve God as the wife of an Evangelist. She earned an associate’s degree in early childhood education. Her training and experience as a Sunday school teacher, Wednesday night club leader, children’s church worker, and bus captain enables us to more effectively reach the younger generation in a local church and community. Together, we have chosen Jude 22 as our ministry motto and goal: “And of some have compassion, making a difference.” It is our deepest desire to make a difference in this world for Christ through the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Life as a Missionary

Through my teenage years, I had the wonderful experience of being part of a missionary family. This allowed me to travel to many different churches while on deputation. On the deputation trail, I was able to learn much about ministering in a different location on a weekly basis. Once on the mission field, I was able to work closely with my Dad in the starting of a brand new Baptist church. During these days, I was able to work with my family in many Vacation Bible Schools, fill the pulpit on many occasions, and view first-hand the life of a Pastor. One of the most valuable lessons that I have learned from my parents is that the ministry is worth giving your all with no strings attached.

Bible College

It was my privilege to receive Biblical and practical training from Ambassador Baptist College in Lattimore, NC. By God’s grace, after four years of school, I was able to graduate in May of 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Bible and Evangelism. During my time at Ambassador, I had the opportunity to sit under men of God who had years of experience in the Gospel ministry and specifically the ministries of missions and evangelism.

Assistant Pastor

I have had the privilege to be on staff under Dr. Darrell Worley at New Hope Baptist Church in Salisbury, NC for over three and a half years. I am very grateful for the training and experience that I have received as an assistant pastor. Under the direction of Pastor Worley, we were able to be part of a church growing in attendance from a 69 average on Sunday mornings to almost a 500 average. We have been privileged to build bus routes from the ground up and to work consistently in the Children’s Church ministry. I have had the opportunity to be responsible for much of the visitation program at New Hope.

As assistant pastor, I have had the opportunity to develop much of the Wednesday night youth program that is currently in place; we have also been privileged to work in our Vacation Bible School. Each year, we at New Hope have our own Youth Camp; I have been able to participate in the designing and planning of this youth camp for four years. For two years, I worked as the Assistant Camp Director; the last two years, I served as the Teen Camp Director.

We believe with all our heart that God has prepared us to do a task. Our time on this earth is quickly running out. Please pray that we will soon be able to be on the field full-time!

A Personal Note From Brother Samuel Mills:

“Brother Mills and his wife are in the field of Missionary Evangelism. Their God-given mission is to assist missionaries on an extended-stay basis. For 2-3 months at a time, the Mills family joins forces with a missionary or pastor to strengthen and encourage that particular family and ministry. They are sent out of New Hope Baptist Church in Salisbury, NC where Dr. Darrell Worley is the pastor. The Mills family is currently on deputation to raise their monthly support. Please pray for the Mills family as they seek to faithfully serve Jesus Christ.”

Conclusion…

Brother Samuel and Mrs. Bethany, are a real blessing to be around. They would love the opportunity to share their ministry with you and your church family. They can be contacted by phone: 704-754-7984 or via email: [email protected]

838309: The Preacher and His Preaching The Preacher and His Preaching

By A.P. Gibbs / ECS Ministries

This present books brings Gibb’s encyclopedic knowledge of the subject within our reach. Gibb’s seriousness, thoroughness, energy, and urgency breath from this book. First entitled A Primer on Preaching, as Gibbs matured so his study of the sacred art of preaching grew. His final edition was completed just months before his sudden homecall in an auto accident enroute to Hamilton, Ontario, for a two week series of Gospel meetings.

Do Unconverted Pastors Have Any Authority To Preach The Bible?

If a man got up before a room full of people and authoritatively disseminated information on the subject of brain surgery without having actually been a brain surgeon, then a vast majority would relegate this man to a non-essential status. If a man began pontificating about engine building having never built one prior to his public address, then, very possibly, he would be considered ignorant. One could endlessly provide scenarios where people teach and share supposed first hand information about certain subjects without having been involved in what they are proposing. With each illustration, one would emphatically state that the speaker was absolutely out of place to do so with zero credibility!

In view of this fact, why is credibility given to individuals who speak about the Bible and its various doctrines without having been born again? What’s more, how is it possible for a man to get up in front of a congregation of people as a pastor and preach without having been saved? Again, how is it conscionable for a man or woman to communicate Bible truths without having full confidence that what the Bible says is true? The fact is that no person has any right or authority to preach and teach God’s Word unless they are a child of God. That is… they have been born again as John chapter three describes.

Ramifications Of The Unconverted Preacher…

Cults are born from the teachings of unconverted ministers. The Bible makes it plain that the natural man or unsaved man, cannot understand the Bible (1 Corinthians 2:14). Only an enlightened soul can rightly divide the Word of God. This enlightenment does not come through mortification of the flesh, channeling departed saints, the worshiping of angels or even through yoga exercises. It only comes through the teaching ministry of the Holy Ghost (John 14:26). The Word of God is spiritually discerned. Great is the scope of destruction from a person who tries to herald forth God’s Word without having been saved prior to!

Results Of The Unconverted Preacher’s Message…

Though there are some exceptions, a vast majority of people who have been indoctrinated by the unconverted have been made a twofold child of the Devil with the contortions fashioned from verses of Scripture taken completely out of context. When people view the Bible through the prism of publications like the Book of Mormon, or The Watchtower, it is very difficult to unravel the cords woven by the unregenerate messages ingrained into them. Great is the accountability to God, whatever the affiliation (Baptist, Methodist, Mormon, etc.), for how one explains God’s Infallible Word!

Rewards Of The Unconverted Preacher In Eternity…

Preacher or not, all of the individuals who have ever lived on planet Earth, that have never been saved by God’s grace, will be cast into the lake of fire! Lost, unregenerate, wicked theologians have for centuries tried to denounce, discredit and disprove this. Though, possibly, millions have been swayed by their message, it still does not change the truth about the future damnation of the unsaved! See Revelation 20:11-15 and Revelation 21:8

Conclusion

It is my personal opinion that the unsaved have no right to authoritatively expound the precepts of God’s Word. Any person, and there are many, who openly denies the need of the new birth, is lost and in need of Jesus Christ! Thus, they should not even attempt to handle the Bible until they are converted by the Holy Ghost! It is for certain, they will continue to spread their poisonous venom until their souls are snuffed out into eternity. Hopefully, those who are in this awful condition will see the error of their way and come to Jesus for Salvation!

4 Ways To Put The Gospel Back Into Gospel Preaching

Carl Olof Rosenius preaching in Betlehemskyrka...Image via Wikipedia

One is almost moved to nausea when viewing many television ministries today. When comparing the gospel preached on those t.v. programs with the gospel of Jesus Christ, you find a vast chasm between the two. There is such a stark contrast between them, one wonders if their entire motive of ministry should be in question. The emphasis is on man, health and wealth rather than on Jesus Christ. It leaves one wondering, “What is the gospel and where is it?” This post seeks to help the sincere preacher of the gospel with four reminders about putting the gospel back into preaching!

Definition Of The Gospel – Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

(1 Corinthians 15:3-4) “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”  (KJV)

#1 – Pastor, Remember To Put A Gangplank In Your Sermon!

“We can learn nothing of the gospel except by feeling its truths.  There are some sciences that may be learned by the head, but the science of Christ crucified can only be learned by the heart.” -Charles Hadden Spurgeon

If one is to be saved and go to heaven when they die, then they will have to be saved God’s way. The problem is of the thousands that hear a sermon each week, few hear the gospel preached distinctly. Pastors must put a gangplank in their messages in order for sinner to be saved! Never preach, testify, give a devotion or teach a Sunday school lesson without giving an opportunity for your hearers to be saved!

#2 – Pastor, Preach The Biblical Gospel!

How shall anyone get saved by a false gospel? The Apostle Paul made it clear to his readers in Galatians chapter one that there is but one gospel of Jesus Christ and not another! He went so far as to say that if anyone came to them with any other so-called gospel to let them be accursed. Literally saying for them to be eternally devoted to damnation!

(Galatians 1:6-9) “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”  (KJV)

Pastor, please preach the right gospel! Not only for the sake of your hearers, but for your own soul! The social gospel, health and wealth gospel, and any other you would put in this sort of list is not the true gospel. People must repent of their sins and put their faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ in order to be saved. Hell will be hot for those who pervert the truth!

#3 – Pastor, Keep The Main Thing The Main Thing!

Pastor, please keep the right priority when preaching. Yes, we need to rightly divide the truth. Yes, we need to go deeper to a certain extent, but the gospel is very simple. Keep it that way! Many preachers are more concerned about things other than the gospel. I am not sure if the story of Christ has gotten old to them. If it has, then they have a heart problem. At any rate, keep the main thing the main thing! Preach Hell hot and Heaven sweet! Tell folks about the wonder working power of Christ’s shed blood!

(John 3:16) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  (KJV)

#4 – Pastor, Never Substitute Your Opinion For Scripture!

The longer one lives the more one sees opinion in place of objective expository preaching of the gospel! Opinion does not mean one iota! Preaching is not like a basketball game where you send in a substitute occasionally. The coach does not like the results of his teams efforts so he sends in a fresh player with a different strategy. God’s word and preaching does not return void of effect, but opinion will! Stick with the gospel and it will provide results in God’s timing!
